Grad Magazine Spreads
Task
This project was part of a collaboration between San Francisco State University’s Journalism and Design departments to create a grad magazine.
Different articles were provided and we chose one or two to create a layout for. The ones I chose were a guide to graduation picture spots around campus, and a timeline showing how covid affected campus.
Grad Picture Guide
As one of my two contributions to the 2023 Grad Magazine, the task here was to design for a guide to the best picture opportunities around campus.
I decided that a very simplified map would work best to keep it easy to understand. The buildings are depicted in an isometric style graphic, and each location is marked with an icon I designed (except for the mascot, which was provided by the university).
Covid Timeline
This was the second of the spreads I decided to do. The spot illustration is actually a bunch of printouts of the word “alone” that I threw on the ground and scanned. This was to add real randomness to feel more natural, instead of me placing them digitally.
The end result was a finalist for the Informational Graphic Award for 2023 Design of the Year for the Associated Collegiate Press.
